FAQs

The benefit of a private consultation is the time and opportunity to discuss all aspects of your pregnancy and to answer any questions you may have. These are some of the more frequently asked questions:

Antenatal care

Do I need a referral?

Mr William Dennes is happy to see patients without a GP referral.

When is the best time in pregnancy to come and see you?

Mr William Dennes will see patients at any stage of their pregnancy from 8 weeks. He usually sees patients from 10 weeks of pregnancy. At this time cfDNA screening can be offered. Prior to 8 weeks we would suggest an early pregnancy scan at the Gynaecology Ultrasound Centre.

Can I just come for a one-off scan?

Yes, that’s fine. Mr William Dennes often sees patients for detailed scans and ‘second opinions’.

Can I see you privately if I am an NHS patient?

Yes, Mr William Dennes regularly sees NHS patients for consultations and scans. This will not affect you NHS care.

Which antenatal classes do you recommend?

Many patients have found the BUMP classes helpful.

Delivery

Which Hospitals do you work in?

Mr William Dennes delivers patients at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, The Portland Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (Kensington Wing) and The Lindo Wing (St Mary’s).

What if you are away when I am due to deliver?

If Mr William Dennes has any planned absences (leave or conferences) you will be advised in advance. On these occasions cover is provided by an experienced consultant colleague.

Caesarean Section

Does it cost more for a caesarean section?

The obstetric fees are the same whatever delivery is planned (or takes place).

Do you have experience of caesarean section?

Mr William Dennes is an experienced obstetrician and has carried out thousands of caesarean sections. He has a particular interest in multiple pregnancy (twins).

Can I chose to have a Caesarean section (LSCS) ?

Previously caesareans have been carried out for medical reasons (indications) – increasingly caesarean sections are also carried out for women requesting them (for maternal choice).

Twins

Do you have experience of twins?

Mr William Dennes is a specialist in fetal medicine and has extensive experience of both scanning and delivering twins (both monochorionic or dichorionic).

Does it cost more for twins?

The fees for one baby (singleton) and twins are the same.

Fees

How much does it cost?

We offer a package of antenatal care (and delivery) – this covers antenatal appointments (planned and as required), delivery (either normal or caesarean section), in patient care (in hospital) and postnatal care. The package covers out of hours care (24 hrs). Current fees are available here. Patients can come for a one off scan or appointment. A 50% deposit of the obstetric fees (antenatal package) is invoiced at 20 weeks (or at booking if later) and the balance following delivery.

Additional Hospital fees and anaesthetic fees are charged separately. Current ultrasound fees can be found here.

Are scans and blood test included in your fees?

Scans and blood tests are charged in addition (separately) to the obstetric fees.

Do you accept patients with medical insurance?

We accept patients who have medical insurance but ask them to settle their invoices directly with the practice and then claim fees back from their insurance companies. We are happy to provide itemised invoices for insurance companies. We advise patients to check the obstetric cover of their policies.

Postnatal care

Do you provide postnatal care?

Mr William Dennes provides postnatal care up to 6 weeks postnatally – when patients are reviewed in a postnatal follow up appointment.
